No End For Sight
Short Film created Entirely with AI
Apr 28, 2025
"No End For Sight" is a short film I created for my final project as part of Professor Leilanni Todd's course on Generative AI at the Scorsese Institute. I challenged myself to create this project in it's entirety in 48 hours as part of the Runway 48 short film hour competiion.
The themes of this piece touch on dreams in reality, growth, and happiness after struggle. In cereating the piece I allowed the Runway software to help guide some of my decisions - I learned the AI is almost like a living paintbrush that allows me to choose the textures I want to give to the canvas, but sometimes the brush strokes are forced upon the situtation. In active creation I was attempting to recreate a cartoonish version of the boy, but the AI continued to make him look realistic. This triggered the idea that as he goes through his struggle of accepting that his dream of being on a pariate ship is just a fantasy - the reality of his life will become more visually "real" (as best as the AI could make it). This balance of creation and adaptation is something that I believe is a crucial part of working with AI in any capacity, as it's not necessarily just a tool it's something more than that which can help guide in many different ways - but we still currently have to think for it.
The title is a reference to the idiom, no end in sight. While somethings seem like they might last forever, it is a good thing that they don't - the title itself refers to this idea in saying that there is no end for seeing yourself dream, grow, and become happy.
